Dell’s SMB storage path

Laser line-up
Brother International Corporation (Canada) Ltd. is focusing its laser-printing solutions on the home office and small and medium-sized business markets with the introduction of its new colour laser printer and multi-function centre line-up. At print speeds of up to 21 pages per minute in both colour and monochrome, the series includes three network-ready colour laser printer models (the HL-4040CN, HL-4050CDN and HL-4070CDW) and one multi-function unit (the MFC-9440CN). Each machine has built-in Ethernet network connectivity as well as the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface. They also offer PCL6 emulation and a USB Direct Interface for compatibility with both PictBridge and USB Flash Memory Drives. The line-up uses a front-loading system for all consumables, plus the user has the option of choosing standard or high yield toners.

Commute comrade
Microsoft Corp.‘s Microsoft Streets & Trips 2008 is an updated version of the program, combining travel and mapping software a sleek global positioning system (GPS) locator, and a new MSN Direct receiver that provides drivers with current traffic updates and competitive gas prices without an Internet connection. It also integrates with Live Search Maps so users can find up-to-date local information that can be saved to take on the road. The program’s fuel consumption manager provides a cost estimate for the trip based on the car’s tank size and mileage per gallon and will alert travelers when it’s time to refuel. The Automatic Re-routing feature will catch any wrong turn and swiftly get drivers back on track virtually anywhere they are travelling in the U.S. or Canada, according to Microsoft.

Hosted wholesalers, distributors
NetSuite Inc. added a host of new features for mid-sized wholesalers and distributors to its Wholesale/Distribution Edition. This includes the Transaction Forms Assistant, Matrix Item Assistant, Vendor Returns, and a host of enhancements around inventory management, warehouse operations and fulfillment. These new features are designed to help companies manage their core business functions, such as lead generation, sales orders, warehouse and inventory management in multiple locations and shipping. Accounting support is throughout. Growing and mid-sized wholesale/distribution companies are continually pressured by complex requirements forced upon them by larger trading partners. They must also deal with global competition, multiple global locations and small margins. NetSuite Wholesale/Distribution Edition is designed to give these mid-market companies access to capabilities generally reserved for large wholesalers and distributors. Storage made simpler

Tough talkie
The Dell MD3000i is an expandable iSCSI SAN array from SANYO Dell, leveraging the modularity and availability of the Dell Modular Disk series, and designed to provide a simplified solution that grows as a business grows. The MD3000i: offers task-based configuration and management software; shares the same hard drives as Dell PowerEdge servers, so customers only need to stock and order one type of drive; offers snapshot and virtual disk copy capabilities to support hourly, real time backups; and does not require specialized IT skills to install, according to Dell.
