CIPS and CIO Strategy Council sign MOU for strategic partnership

Mississauga, ON – July 12, 2021 – CIPS (Canadian Information Procession Society) and CIO Strategy Council signed a memorandum of understanding with the purpose of creating a strategic partnership that recognizes the strengths of each organization and produces benefits for the ICT sector.

CIPS and CIOSC will collaborate on initiatives and exchange knowledge and expertise between public and private sector technology leaders across all sectors of the economy on digital governance.

CIPS and CIOSC will work to create intellectual capital to shape and influence debate and advance digital innovation by leveraging existing collaborations and through co-sponsored research. This partnership will also identify new standards projects, research, and professional certifications for the competence, professionalism, and proficiency of IT professionals.

CIPS, Canada’s Association of IT Professionals, is a not-for-profit professional association representing individual ICT practitioners across Canada. CIPS promotes quality standards and practices and advocates on issues related to the IT profession in Canada. CIPS certifies IT professionals and accredits post-secondary IT programs both in Canada and abroad.

CIPS has a strong international presence and represents Canadian IT professionals in international forums. CIPS is a founding member of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing), IP3 (International Professional Practice Partnership), ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals), and FEAPO (Federation of Enterprise Architecture Professional Organizations). CIPS also has relationships with the Australian Computer Society, British Computer Society, IEEE-CS, and many other international computing societies.

CIPS is also one of eight worldwide signatories to the Seoul Accord, whose primary purpose is to contribute to improving global computing education through mutual recognition of accredited academic computing programs.

CIPS CEO Greg Lane, FCIPS, I.S.P. (ret.) indicated that “this is an extremely exciting partnership for CIPS and Canada’s IT community, as working with the CIO Strategy Council and its membership of CIOs will help increase awareness of the importance and benefit of standards, best practices, and professional certification for IT professionals, academia, and the ICT sector.”

CIOSC is a not-for-profit that provides a forum for Canada’s most forward-thinking CIOs to focus on collectively transforming, shaping, and influencing the Canadian information and technology ecosystem.

“Carefully crafted standards are the bedrock on which level playing fields are built. So, as more of Canada’s economy shifts online, there’s an urgency to ensure our national standards keep pace with digital technologies,” said Keith Jansa, Executive Director of CIOSC. “The voice of the country’s IT professionals obviously needs to be heard loudly in that conversation. We are pleased to be establishing this partnership with CIPS and are looking forward to the progress that will come from it.”
