Sage North America has brought David Rumer, a former executive at Oracle Corp., SAP AG, and TopSystems Inc., on board as its vice president of market development for Canada.

While Rumer’s LinkedIn profile lists him as having held the position for the past three months, Sage only made the announcement today. The accounting and business management software provider will be looking to Rumer to grow its business here in Canada. His role includes building strategic partnerships, developing marketing for Sage’s products, and shoring up relationships with Canadian channel partners and industry analysts.

“With a proven track record in developing and implementing large-scale marketing programs for global software companies combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, I am confident that David will be instrumental in developing strategic alliances while driving Sage brand awareness with existing and new small and medium-sized customers and partner channels in the Canadian market,” said Nancy Harris, Sage’s senior vice president and general manager in Canada, in a statement.

For Rumer’s part, he said he was looking forward to joining a team that’s focused on serving its customers.

“It is a tremendous pleasure to join Sage, which has a rich history of being a valuable supporter to small and medium-sized companies in Canada. Not only was I drawn to the fact that Sage has a portfolio of category leaders with comprehensive roadmaps and are extremely innovative, but the solutions also create greater freedom for businesses to succeed,” said Rumer in a statement.

“Even more impressive is how Sage develops business management solutions with our customers’ experience being of paramount importance. In fact, the primary focus of every employee at Sage is about customer success, and that is a very powerful business model.”

Rumer’s first executive position in marketing was with TopSystems in 1993, helping the privately-held Dutch company make its foray into North America. In 1999, he joined Oracle Canada as its senior director of marketing, staying in that position for about seven years before switching over to the enterprise business side for Oracle Americas.
Most recently, before joining Sage, he spent nine months at SAP AG in solution strategy and marketplace enablement.
