RIM appoints new execs to head up marketing, operations

Research In Motion Ltd. has appointed a new chief marketing officer and chief marketing officer, filling two of the deepest voids on its management team.

Frank Boulben is the new CMO, RIM announced today. He was formerlyexecutive vice-president of strategy, marketing and sales forLightSquared, a wireless Internet company based in the U.S. His otherpast positions were with Vodafone, Orange and Vivendi Universal. Hisappointment delivers on a promise made by CEO Thorsten Heins to focusmore on marketing in a bid to improve the way RIM tells its story tothe world.

The new COO is former Sony Mobile Communications executive V.P.Kristian Tear. He fills the COO position left vacant when Heins waspromoted to the top job earlier this year.

The appointments follow last week’s unveiling of the BlackBerry 10 OSat RIM’s developer conference in the U.S. last week, as well as anembarrassing flash mob that RIM originally did not acceptresponsibility for organizing outside of an Apple Inc. store inAustralia.
