Klick attracting hires with perks, ice cream, and experiential marketing

Toronto-based company Klick Health is launching a recruiting campaign that will give prospective candidates some of its company perks – like dinner delivered to the door, for example.

Starting today, the health and pharmaceutical-focused digital marketing agency is aggressively going after potential new hires by offering access to Klick Concierge. Normally reserved for the company’s 400 or so employees, the service will order and deliver dinner and run errands for job seekers.

However, for its current employees, it manages a centre for yoga and other fitness classes, a dry cleaning service, and it handles more personal tasks like researching baby shower gifts, organizing a bachelor party, and arranging a honeymoon.

To further sweeten its recruiting campaign, the company has also brought out a Klick-branded ice cream truck, dispensing Oreo ice cream sandwiches alongside job postings. Klick Concierge will be available for the rest of the summer, while the ice cream truck and recruitment efforts will continue until the end of the week.

Sounds like a lot of effort? It’s all part of the company’s efforts to marry experiential marketing with HR and recruiting, says Leerom Segal, CEO and co-founder of Klick.

“What we found was that over the last decade, we’ve seen experiental marketing really pop up in almost every facet of life,” he says, adding Klick tried something similar last year, with a smaller campaign in the U.S.

“And here comes recruiting, yet there’s really no way for an individual to get a taste of what an organization is all about … We’re looking for so many talented individuals, and many people have their heads down, they’re not thinking about getting a job. But maybe an initiative like this that’s so surround sound will be an opportunity for them to think about whether or not their organization is growing at the same pace that it needs to do something like this.”

Nor does the experiential side of things end once a job seeker has put in his or her application and ordered that delivered dinner. Candidates get access to a talent advocate who will give them a personalized application process through answering questions, setting up an office tour, and so on. And once candidates get hired, they keep working with their talent advocates to boost their career growth through career planning, skills development, conference attendance, and volunteering through corporate social responsibility.

The company is looking to add about 150 people to its Toronto office over the next year, hunting for people in client services, creative work, project management, and almost every discipline in the organization. However, right now, Klick is most interested in developers and people with a technical background, like experience design, information architecture, QA testing, and so on, Segal says.

To apply, interested job seekers can submit a traditional résumé and cover letter. However, they can also send in a video application to show off their personalities, or mention current Klick employees who would be willing to give them endorsements. An endorsement can get a candidate fast-tracked into an interview, without having to be screened first.

All of this “gives them a chance to show us they’re more than an eight-and-a-half by 11 piece of paper,” Segal says. “Our growth trajectory … has been so consistent over the years, and that just gives people the opportunity to really stretch and be surrounded by other wicked smart people who are growing at the same pace as them.”
