Hewlett-Packard Co. has launched a fresh line of printers geared towards the small to mid-sized business (SMB) market, offering up three new colour inkjet printers today.
Branded as tools “designed to simplify printing,” the new HP Officejet Pro 8600 series uses ink technology, rather than laser technology, to save on costs and to speed up the printing process. The new series includes the HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One, the HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One, and the HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One.
According to HP, its new printers will produce colour pages that will cost up to 50 per cent less per page, compared to colour laser printers.
They’ll be compatible with HP’s Web JetAdmin service, helping the IT department manage access to the printers, as well as HP Flow CM Professional, the printer-maker’s cloud solution for organizing and accessing content.
The new printers are also eligible for HP’s Instant Ink program, which provides three different monthly plans for printers to order their own replacement cartridges before they run out of ink.
And due to HP’s membership to Mopria, the organization that sets standards for mobile printing, the Officejet Pro 8600 series supports wireless printing using mobile devices like Android smartphones and tablets. Two of the printers, the HP Officejet Pro 8630 and the 8620, also use near field communication (NFC) technology, allowing users to tap their NFC-enabled smartphones and tablets to the printers to start a print job.
Pricing starts at $199 for the Officejet Pro 8610.
Starting at $299, the 8620 offers a 4.3-inch colour display, faster printing and scanning than the 8610, and an automatic document feeder than can handle 50 pages at once.
The HP Officejet Pro 8630 is the top tier printer in this series, offering one more paper tray than the 8620, colour cartridges, and optical character recognition. It starts at around $399.
All of the printers should be available in Canada by early May.
