What Canada’s election results mean for SMBs

Targeting small businesses was an important strategy during this year’s federal election campaign. Each party’s platform had a section dedicated to making life a little easier for such a large group of Canadian businesses.

Luckily for those businesses, the new Conservative majority government and its new opposition party, the New Democratic Party, both seem to be making small businesses a priority (assuming they stick to their election promises).

Unfortunately, neither party’s platform is very dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurs and Canada’s digital future, especially when compared to the Liberals’ promises, which may have been good news for Canadian start-ups. And with the Liberals’ devastating fall in seats, Canada might not see much of that party’s platform make its way into policy.

We look at what the 41st Parliament could mean for small businesses and some of the ideas that just didn’t make it.
