Here’s what’s making news today in the startup world.

Planet DVD now in business
Jim Gormley, who used to head up Jumbo Video’s Canadian operations, haslaunched the startup PlanetDVD, thefirst franchised video rental kiosks in Canada. The firstkiosk has been placed in front of a Sobey’s grocery store inMississauga, Ont., CanadianBusinessreports, with nine more kiosks planned to open near other Sobey’soutlets as part of a pilot project. Video rentals will cost $3 per newrelease.

What’s on tap for C2-MTL
Organizers of the C2-MTLconference on commerce and creativity in Montreal haveannounced that IBM will present findings of its 2012 Global CEO studyat the event which runs from May 22-25, Next Montreal reports. Anotherhighlight: Fast Companywill present its list of the “100 Most Creative People in Business” atthe event, a list that is usually unveiled in New York. C2-MTLorganizers have also announced a newinteractive package to allow 400 more people to attend thesoldout event in some capacity.

Telus Challenge Event
There’s a surprise speaker set to take the stage at the Telus Challenge Eventcalled Innovation for Your Business.Organizers from Telus aren’t giving any hints about who it might be,but other presenters at the April 19 event will include Jim Senko, VPof SMB marketing at Telus, Angela Quinton of Sandberg Labs (she’ll talkabout how she spent the $100,000 business grant she won at last year’sTelusChallenge contest for SMBs) and Sean Stanleigh, small business editorat the Globe and Mail’sReport on Business section. The event will explore ways SMBs caninnovate to remain competitive.
