Rypple co-founder lands role in venture capital

george babuWhat do you do after you sell your startup to Salesforce.com? You go into venture capital, of course.

Omers Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of the Omers, one of Canada’s largest pension funds, has hired George Babu as a director. In this role, he will be responsible for identifying and closing investment opportunities in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors, with a focus on human-computer interfaces, hardware platforms, mobile and enterprise software.

“Omers Ventures is focused on investing in Canadian companies with the potential to become global leaders. As a very successful entrepreneur with diverse financial and operational knowledge, George will be a huge asset in helping us achieve this goal,” said John Ruffolo, CEO of Omers Ventures, in a statement.

Before joining Omers, babu was general counsel and head of U.S. operations for Stockholm-based social gifting startup Wrapp. But he’s better known in Canada as the co-founder and head of finance and operations at Rypple, a social performance platform acquired by .Salesforce.com in late 2011. He also spent nine years at BlackBerry.
