Ontario’s Recycling Idol set to be crowned

Ryan Seacrest won’t be there and the winner won’t receive a recoding contact, but Ontario’s next Recycling Idol will get $30,000 in prizes and bragging rights.

On Dec. 6th in Mississauga, Ont., four emerging recycling technology companies will compete against each other, showcasing their solutions that aim to improve environmental and waste diversion initiatives. Sponsored by Research Innovation & Commercialization Centre (RIC), part of the Ontario Network of Excellence, the finalists will pitch their company to a panel of investors, Dragon’s Den style.

The judges will include the environment commissioner of Ontario, Gord Miller, Franco Hasou, a partner with Ernst & Young’s Cleantech practice, and Shirley Speakman, investment director at the MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund.

Recycling Idol is set for Dec. 6th in Mississauga, Ont..

The four finalists are:

*B and R Custom Machining Limited: cleans 20 per cent contaminated tire wire into steel and rubber.

*Blue Mountain Plastics: has a “closed loop” PET plastic recycling operation.

*CR Plastic Products Inc:. makes high quality patio furniture from recycled plastic.

*Tyromer Inc.: uses its patented tire rubber devulcanization technology to revert scrap tire rubber into a compoundable rubber used in tire manufacturing.
