Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi expected in Canada April 8

A Wi-Fi only version of Canada’s first Android Honeycomb tablet and iPad-competitor Motorola Xoom will be launched in April, according to Motorola Mobiliity Canada.

The Xoom boasts a 10.1-inch touch screen display and is powered by Google’s tablet-specific Android 3.0 OS. It has many similar specs to Apple’s iPad 2, including a dual-core 1 Ghz processor, 32 GB of internal memory, and 1 GB of RAM. But it also supports Adobe Flash content, unlike Apple’s devices. Telus Mobility has announced it will sell the Wi-Fi only version of the Xoom tablet. Futureshop has started taking pre-orders for the device priced at $599.99, estimating an Apri 8 release date. Telus says it will also sell the tablet as low as $599.99.

At that price, the Xoom is priced the same as Apple’s 32 GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2 model. Apple hasn’t officially unveiled pricing for Canada yet, but it’s widely expected to be the same as its first iPad lineup. The iPad 2 is available in Canada March 25.
