IT World Canada winner at Canadian Online Publishing Awards

IT World Canada won a gold award and two silver awards at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards for 2013, hosted Nov. 13 in Toronto.

The March 2013 edition of Computing Canada, the digital publication of IT World Canada, won the gold award in the “Best Digital Edition (Replica)” business-to-business category. The team credited includes: Howard Solomon, Nestor Arellano, Brian Bloom, Dave Webb, Mel Manasan, and Jeff Coles. The issue can be downloaded here and features a cover story on Hadoop, the open source big data database architecture. The edition features several multimedia items including an audio interview, video, and polls.

ITBusiness.ca scored a silver award in the “Best Mobile-Optimized Web site” category. Credit goes to Brian Jackson, Jeff Radecki, Candice So, Fawn Annan, Tyson Dover, and Jeff Coles. After we relaunched our Web site in February, we wanted to make sure it was a responsive design. Using HTML 5 and CSS 3, we designed one site that is accessible and appealing on every device no matter what the platform or screen size. Many of the features found on our full site are still available on mobile, including video, comments, and social sharing.

Finally, CanadianCIO was awarded the silver for “Best Tablet Edition.” Being mentioned in the credits are Shane Schick, Mel Manasan, Jeff Coles, and Brad McBride. You can download the winning November/December 2012 issue here. It features a cover story about Canada Newswire’s approach to managing unstructured data, and a story about the Department of National Defence and e-Health.

This year marked the fifth year of the COPA awards and IT World Canada has been recognized as a winner in various categories since its inaugural year in 2009. The awards are presented by Masthead and intend to recognize excellence in digital publishing.
