Hootsuite certified for highly regulated industries

Social media management platform Hootsuite has passed an audit that confirms the platform is suitable for use in heavily regulated industries, the company announced.

The Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type 1 audit conducted by professional services firm Deloitte LLP checked Hootsuite’s information security practices, procedures, policies and operations against the SOC 2 standards for security, availability and confidentiality.

The report provides a review of how Hootsuite’s internal controls affect the security, availability and processing integrity of the systems it uses to process user data along with the privacy and security of those systems. It’s “crucial” for customers in highly regulated industries, according to the company.

The social media management platform is used by 10 million people worldwide and has a presence in 800 of the Fortune 1000 companies, the company says. The platform also integrates with hundreds of business applications, making the verification of security controls that much more significant.

“Obtaining the SOC 2 Type 1 certification reinforces Hootsuite’s ongoing commitment to the security, availability, and processing integrity of the Hootsuite platform,” says Irwan Tjan, chief information security officer at Hootsuite. “Our customers can feel confident that we are making every investment to establish and maintain the highest level of security and compliance.”

The company says it is also adding layers of redundancy to its infrastructure and increasing monitoring coverage of its platform to increase reliability.

Hootsuite also recently announced a partnership with “social listening” company Synthesio.

“The integration allows marketers to listen, analyze, strategically engage, and respond to customers seamlessly across all of their social platforms. The two solutions combined allow for a single social media management platform that combines the listening, analytics, and intelligence features of Synthesio with the publishing capabilities Hootsuite offers,” wrote Stewart Rogers on Venture Beat.
