Amazon has revealed how many Prime subscribers it has for the first time ever, former Yahoo-boss Marissa Mayer announces what she is doing next, and Apple’s latest piece of tech is an iPhone recycling robot.

And for today’s episode, you can check out for the first time ever, Hashtag Trending in a video format. We’ve created a pilot of what a video version of the podcast might look like, so please give us your feedback on Twitter @itworldca.

From Twitter – It’s finally happened! In his annual letter to shareholders, CEO Jeff Bezos revealed for the first time EVER the number of Prime subscribers Amazon has, which now exceeds 100 million. Bezos also revealed that in 2017 Amazon added more Prime members than any year prior, and shipped over five billion items through Prime worldwide. This news comes after Amazon said earlier this week that it will be getting rid of the Whole Foods loyalty program in the next two weeks and replacing it with Prime membership, following through on what the company indicated when it completed the 13.7 billion acquisition last year. Prime benefits in Whole Foods locations include the likes of Amazon Lockers and free two-hour delivery for Whole Foods purchases over 35 bucks.

From LinkedIn – Former Yahoo-boss Marissa Mayer has her next project, which she revealed in a New York Times article. Meyer, who was the 20th employee at Google and the company’s first female engineer, is creating a tech incubator called Lumi Labs that will focus on consumer media and AI. With this new venture, Mayer is literally going back to her roots since she rented the old Google office that she started her career in back in 1999. While details on how Lumi labs will operate are still scarce, since her departure from Yahoo after the Verizon acquisition, there has been a good amount of speculation on where she would end up. Looks like we have our answer.

And from Reddit – As Earth Day approaches, Apple has debuted a new iPhone recycling robot named Daisy as part of its continued recycling effort. Daisy will be able to disassemble old iPhones in order to recover valuable materials. It is currently able to take apart nine different versions of the iPhone and is able to take apart and sort the remains up to 200 iPhones per hour. This all part of the company’s ongoing effort to eventually be able to make its products using only recycled or renewable materials. As part of the announcement, Apple released its annual environment report that says that its global facilities like retail stores, offices, data centres, and co-located facilities in 43 countries are now powered with 100 per cent clean energy.
