Canadians who think their technology and innovation leadership skills are on par with those as serial entrepreneur Terence Matthews or the Motorola Solutions country manager George Krausz should consider throwing their name in the hat for the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) National Advisory Leadership Council.
CATA announced today it is seeking nominations and expressions of interest for the governing body that provides the alliance guidance and advice. There are 18 to 20 members that sit on the council, appointed to two-year terms for a maximum of two terms. Candidates should have a long list of experience relating to Canada’s technology sector, senior management experience, and time for a one-hour conference call every three months.
More broadly, council members are expected to lead CATA advocacy initiatives and participate in mentor outreach, CATA says. Billing itself as the largest high-tech association in Canada, it seeks to match businesses with opportunities across almost every sector.
The current council members’ list is a who’s who of technology leadership positions in Canada. Aside from Matthews, the chair, and Krausz, here are a few other members:

- – Mike Andrade, senior vice president and general manager of North America Celestica Inc.
- – Tom Copeland, chair of the Canadian Association of Internet Providers and founder of Eagle.ca
- – Cindy Gordon, CEO and founder of Helix Commerce International
Recently, CATA has been lobbying the federal government to legalize crowdfunding in Canada. It’s also called on the government to create a plan to provide broadband Internet to all Canadians.
