Canadian Computer Charity Golf Classic enters 30th year

Barring anything short of a miracle, players on the Toronto Maple Leafs will soon be slinging a bag of golf clubs over their shoulder instead of hitting the rink for early-morning playoff practices. If you’re in the computer industry, you might want to join them on the links so you can get ready for the Canadian Computer Charity Golf Classic this fall.

The annual event that raises funds for two causes, the Easter Seals Ontario and Princess Margaret Hospital, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It will be hosted Sept. 4 at Clublink’s The Country Club in Vaughn, Ont. IT World Canada is the media sponsor. Other sponsors include Cisco Canada, AGFA, Comstor, Ingram Micro, OEM Corp., and Targus.

Founded by Frank Squizzato, the charity golf tournament has raised more than $4.6 million over the years. In addition to a charity fundraiser, it’s also a networking opportunity for the golfers who attend to network with their peers in the computer industry.

This year’s schedule of events for Sept. 30 includes complimentary time on the driving range, a breakfast, and then a shotgun tee-off at 9:00 AM. A silent auction and cocktails will follow the golf round, whether you manage to finish all 18 holes or not.

Registration is now open for the event and sponsorship opportunities are also on the table.

Here’s a look back at last year’s event, which raised more than $240,000 for the two causes:
