BlackBerry broadens support for secure file sharing tool WatchDox

BlackBerry Ltd. has unveiled new platform support and a new app for WatchDox, its secure enterprise file sharing and mobile content management solution.

The Waterloo, Ont.-based mobile communications solutions vendor has launched a WatchDox app for the BlackBerry 10 platform as well as new multi-OS integration, including Android at Work and Samsung Knox. The WatchDox solution allows files to be accessed from any endpoint device while organizations remain in control of their corporate content, even after it has been downloaded and shared with others.

The WatchDox app for BlackBerry smartphones running the vendor’s newest operating system, BlackBerry 10, provides secure access to those online files and the ability to synchronize it across endpoints. Users can browse, access and search Microsoft Office, PDF and image files, as well as files from Windows File Share and Microsoft SharePoint, and share them with third parties, while still maintaining corporate data control.

On the business end, content viewed using WatchDox can be audited for compliance purposes, encryption is delivered through digital rights management policies applied to all files, and files can only be opened in the WatchDox app to ensure control is maintained.

“Organizations want to empower their workforce to collaborate and make it easier for them to be productive as the work environment blends between mobile and desktop,” said Billy Ho, executive vice-president, enterprise products and value added solutions with BlackBerry, in a statement. “We believe that WatchDox by BlackBerry is the ideal solution to meet this demand, and the new application for BlackBerry 10 delivers these benefits to customers through essential mobile content management capabilities. The app is a great complement to our existing iOS and Android mobile offerings and web and desktop interfaces.”

Also new for WatchDox is expanded support for devices using Samsung Knox, Android for Work, and Secure Work Space for iOS and Android. All these programs use secure workspaces that WatchDox can leverage to separate work content from personal content for greater security.

The update to WatchDox also includes new mobile productivity tools for creating and editing files, performance improvements to help when working with larger files, and Enterprise Identity by BlackBerry integration so users can access he app from any endpoint with single sign-on authentication.
