Welcome to the fifth episode of CMO Digital, the video podcast that seeks to save you the time it takes to stay on top of the latest online marketing news and insights every week. This week we’re talking about how Canadians consume media, video advertising, and more.
How Canadians are consuming their video content is changing. Canadians are among the highest volume video consumers in the world when it comes to the online realm, and they’re doing it across a variety of devices. While 12 million more Canadians are accessing video via their mobile devices, the device of choice for many remains the PC. But that’s expected to change soon. Especially considering that most young Canadians prefer their smartphones for watching video.
Yahoo made a major acquisition, buying BrightRoll for $640 million this week. Why’d they make the move? The video advertising platform is already used by 87 out of the top 100 U.S. advertisers and it solves the problem of placing video ads programmatically across many device types. Video stands as one of Yahoo’s core business pillars, so it’s key for the new acquisition to deliver on revenue for Yahoo’s digital future.
And our shout out this week goes to Tom Ward, VP of marketing at Qnext. Qnext is creating virtualized storage for individuals, so you can always get to the files you need no matter where they’re stored.
