Vancouver wins big for upping its digital game

For Immediate Release

August 14, 2018 (TORONTO) The City of Vancouver was one of six organizations singled out at the second annual ITWC Digital Transformation Awards held in Toronto on Tuesday.

The City of Vancouver was named winner in the Large Public category beating our six other finalists from across Canada. The award recognizes the City’s commitment to place the citizen at the centre of everything it does digitally.

Citizens can now perform all transactions — from obtaining a dog licence to viewing a council meeting — via the City’s responsive website, using a single connected device, from any of hundreds of #VanWiFi points located in the city. Citizens can also use the VanConnect app to submit service requests.

“Everyone in Vancouver is impacted by the project,” said judging panelist Tandet Group CIO Corey Cox. “Their initiatives are very citizen-forward project that’s all about improving the public experience.”

“Vancouver’s nomination described clearly the approach they took, with the goal of creating a ‘data-fluid’ culture,” said judge Gary Davenport. “It was the first time I heard the phrase, but it’s a good one and it speaks to an understanding of data and its impact on the citizen. It’s an indication of a fundamental shift in thinking that other cities can model.”
