Telus earns award for AI-fueled Transformation

Toronto, ON (July 14, 2020) – One Canada’s most familiar names in mobile was recognized for its artificial intelligence efforts Tuesday during the second day of ITWC’s virtual 2020 Digital Transformation Week conference.

TELUS was singled out in the AI-fueled Transformation category for its use of AI technology to power internal support assistants and customer-facing virtual assistants that engaged in more than 4.6 million conversations in 2019. There were two other finalists in the category: Cymax Group a fast-growing online furniture retailer and  MetaOptima Technology Inc., a medical device company using AI to enhance skin imaging and analytics.

“TELUS believes in the power of responsibly used AI to serving customers better,” said ITWC President and CEO Fawn Annan. “But for TELUS this is no mere pet project.  The sheer number of conversations with TELUS customers being handled and handled by AI is remarkable. It is so seamless an experience, people do not know they are dealing with a bot.”

The Digital Transformation Award program was launched in 2017 to find successful case studies for organizations looking for examples to follow in their own transformation journey. The program receives nominations from companies and public sector organizations coast to coast. An independent panel of industry experts judges the award winners based on a number of key considerations.
