Slalom honoured with Daily Bread Food Bank’s Best in Class Award for Corporate Leader

Slalom Canada’s employee-driven partnership with Daily Bread Food Bank is helping combat hunger close to home.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada — October 7, 2019 — As recognition for their ongoing and consistent commitment to Daily Bread Food Bank, the not-for-profit presented Slalom a Best in Class Award for Corporate Leaders at a reception on September 26. The award honours the unique ways, both small and large, in which Slalom partners with Daily Bread Food Bank.

Slalom is a consulting firm that invests in people, in communities, and in their clients’ success. As such, the advisors, strategists, and engineers who comprise Slalom’s Toronto office have taken their partnership with Daily Bread Food Bank to another level this year, finding innovative ways to support the charitable organization’s continuing fight against food insecurity. Founded in 1983, Daily Bread Food Bank has grown to become one of Canada’s largest food banks, supplying food to nearly 200 food programs across Toronto through inventive programming, such as Farm to Food Bank.

Slalom’s involvement with Daily Bread was employee-initiated and continues to be entirely employee-driven. Slalom’s annual food drive raised more than $40,000 and volunteers spent over 100 hours sorting donated food. The team at Slalom is passionate about making a difference and about having fun. So, all the money raised was through fun events like taco day, a charity spin class, and even a ‘pie in the face of senior leaders’ auction. Slalom brought a team to Daily Bread’s corporate food sort challenge, organized food sorting events to team-build internally and with clients, and provided the option for employees to opt for their annual holiday gift to be a donation to Daily Bread Food Bank. All 300 employees in Toronto found some way to get involved with giving back. “I’m so proud of our Slalomites in Canada, their passion for food equality drove them to donate and volunteer to achieve these outcomes for Daily Bread—this award is for each of them.” Laura Fini, Client Service Partner, Slalom.

When asked to participate in the inaugural Daily Bread CEO Cook-off Event, Slalom jumped at the opportunity to bring clients and partners together to participate. Slalom Managing Director, Mark Andersen, spent hours preparing the meal. “It was a great event for a great organization,” says Mark Andersen. “Slalom helps companies solve problems by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. I think if more corporations and individuals partnered with Daily Bread, then eradicating food insecurity in the GTA is possible.”

In addition, a group of Slalom employees went above and beyond, volunteering their time and expertise to work with the Daily Bread team to empower them with better decision-making abilities through analytics. “Slalom’s corporate culture is built on a foundation of core values that are an active part of everything we do,” says Wayne Ingram, Country Managing Director, Slalom. “The first of those, ‘Do the right thing, always’, has manifested in this partnership with Daily Bread Food Bank – a relationship that will continue to grow as Slalom continues to grow.”
