Haliburton Highlands cool new tourism video is red hot

The County of Haliburton’s new off-beat tourism video is finding fans – lots of them.

In just over a week, the two-minute spot trumpeting the variety of things to do in the Haliburton Highlands has scored more than 32,000 views.

“It’s a little bit of a quirky look at the region and turns clichés on their head,” says Jim Love, Chief Content Officer with Digital Reno, the Haliburton content shop that put the video together.

“With more views than there are residents in the county, I think we’ve tapped into something that resonates with people from beyond the area.”

The video Haliburton Highlands: Authentically Canadian targets the growing international market by defining the region with a patriotic tone.

Suggesting the region “is about as Canadian as you can get”, it goes on to present a cheeky list of “truly Canadian” Highland activities ranging from hiking and watersports to sled dog racing and blacksmithing.

“We are so authentically Canadian our tears are 95 per cent maple syrup,” says the narrator with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek.

The County’s Director of Tourism, Amanda Virtanen is thrilled with the response.

“I had a vision to create a piece which highlighted the region’s world-class experiences, but wanted the narratives and visuals to be fun and refreshing. The Haliburton Highlands has so much happening, I wanted this video to be something the community could get behind and ‘toot our horn’ with.”
The video is posted on the Haliburton Highlands social media channels, find it by searching #MyHaliburtonHighlands

Digital Reno is supported by the Haliburton County Development Corporation. Haliburton-based Sticks + Stones Productions provided some of the footage used in the video.
