CDN reveals annual Top 100 Solution Providers List

TORONTO – It was a photo finish for CDW Canada and Softchoice at the annual Computer Dealer News (CDN) Top 100 Solution Providers Gala.

For the first time in Top 100 history, two solution providers tied for top spot on the CDN Top 100 List. CDW Canada and Softchoice finished neck-and-neck to claim the No. 1 Solution Provider in Canada according to the CDN Top 100 Solution Providers rankings.

The list of 100 of the top IT solution providers, based on 2016 revenue, was released last night (April 25) at a gala awards ceremony attended by more than 200 channel partners from across the country.

In total, the 100 companies on the list recorded more than $8 million in revenue, up 20 per cent from last year, according to analysis by CDN and IDC Canada. A Benchmark report with a more detailed analysis of the top 100 corporate submissions is expected before the end of the month.

COMPLETE TOP 100 SOLUTION PROVIDERS RANKING

The CDN Top 100 Solution Providers list has had ties in the past at lower rankings, but with comparable revenues between $750 million to $800 million, CDW Canada and Softchoice ended up even at the very top.

With the win, the Etobicoke, Ontario-based CDW Canada has held the top spot for four years running. It also means Softchoice returns to the spot it dominated in the early 2010s when it was the number one solution provider for seven years straight. It held the number two spot for the past three years.

Compugen and OnX claimed the third and fourth place spots, with Long View Systems of Calgary advancing into the top five for the first time.

CDN introduced five new solution-specific award categories at this year’s event. Winners in each category were based on the percentage of overall revenue instead of total revenue.

The winners:

“There were 17 new entries onto the Top 100 list this year,” said Paolo Del Nibletto, editor of CDN. “That underscores the volatile nature of the channel, and the need for companies to advance and transform at the same pace of their customers.”

The Best Performing Newcomer Award went to Convergint Technologies of Calgary, one of the few solution providers to dip its toe into the IoT  space.

The Fastest Rising Star Award went to Toronto-based IT consultant MNP, fueled by its 2016 acquisition of noted CDN Top 100 player NCI.

Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Rick Reid, president of Tech Data Canada, and to Dave MacDonald, president and CEO of  Softchoice.

The Top 100 Solution Providers Event was sponsored by tech Data, HP Inc., Dell EMC, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Canada, CA Technologies Canada, Rogers, and AMD Canada. Supporting sponsors included BlackBerry, Wells Fargo, VMware, and  Symantec Canada.
