Video Rewind: Kobo’s first e-reader

Toronto-based Kobo Inc. is the latest e-reader maker to release an Android-powered device to the market in the Kobo Vox.

With the $200 device that runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Kobo hopes to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet in the U.S. Recently acquired by Japanese firm Rakuten for $315 million, Kobo sells its e-books to many devices in addition to its e-readers, including the iPad, BlackBerry, and Android.

Kobo has come a long way in its hardware offerings since April 27, 2010. That’s when we reviewed its first e-reader device, and while we appreciated its design features, we found the loading time for books to be interminably long.
