Halifax – SolutionInc Ltd. and Altimax have joined forces to offer wireless high-speed Internet services to commercial businesses and public areas in Atlantic Canada.
The offering will incorporate SolutionInc’s SolutionIP Enterprise software and Motorola Canopy hardware. SolutionIP
Enterprise will be installed at the Altimax network Operations Center, allowing the vendors to centrally manage the provisioning, authentication, billing and security for customers using the Altimax Network. The wireless system is designed to enable Internet connectivity to any building without structural barriers.
RIM, Motorola make a connection ON Blackberry devices
WATERLOO, ONT. – Research in Motion has announced plans to enable BlackBerry connectivity on Motorola’s MPx and MPx220 mobile devices.
Through RIM’s BlackBerry Connect licensing program, the devices will be able to connect to BlackBerry services including BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Web Client.
For corporate users, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software integrates with Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino, and Novell GroupWise support is expected to be added later this year.
The Motorola MPx provides a full QWERTY keyboard and built-in WiFi in a phone.
GRAND & TOY TRASHES AGING POS SYSTEM IN 70-PLUS RETAIL OUTLETS
TORONTO – Office supply chain Grand & Toy has replaced its aging point-of-sale equipment with technology that can respond to retail changes in minutes rather than days.
Grand & Toy has updated POS terminals in each of its 70-plus stores across the country, replacing 7052 NCR cash registers that ran on DOS with RealPOS 80 NCR machines that operate on Windows 2000.
In-store servers have been upgraded from Windows NT machines to Dell PowerEdge 1600 servers on Windows 2000. The stores also switched from dot-matrix to thermal printers for purchase receipts.
