Microblogging site Twitter had its eye on Vancouver-based mobile photo-sharing application Camera+, according to reports from Bloomberg.com.
Camera+ is co-founded by Lisa Bettany of Vancouver, and owned by Tap Tap Tap.
Twitter became interested in acquiring the company’s Camera+ app after Facebook announced it was purchasing Instagram for $1 billion, the report said.
The Bloomberg said the plan was divulged by “two people with knowledge of the negotiations.” The online publication said the sources asked not to be identified.
Twitter talked with Tap Tap Tap several times. The talks reportedly broke down before Twitter could make an offer. Tap Tap Tap has workers in Canada, The United States, Austria, New Zealand, and Spain. The company was hesitant to relocate to San Francisco although 10 of its employees are already stationed there, the report said.
Camera+ enables users to take photos with their iPhone, alter image colours and share the photos on Camera+’s social network through Twitter and Facebook.
The app lets users manipulate photos with cropping tools, borders, color tints and retro effects. It costs about 99 cents. Over the last two years it has been downloaded more than 7.5 million times.
