Cognos releases Cognos 8 BI
Cognos announced a version of Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI). The release includes new search and reporting capabilities to extend the reach of BI to more users and offers expanded enterprise-application and data support.

Cognos 8 BI delivers a zero-footprint interface for all users, authors and administrators. Some of the new features include BI search, a Cognos Go! search service. The new BI search capability will enable users to instantly find relevant, strategic enterprise information available through Cognos 8 BI. With a browser-based search that ranks results based on user priorities, Cognos Go! will deliver users an intuitive way of quickly finding BI information and data presented in reports, analyses, dashboards, metric information and events across the organization.

Also included is Extended Cognos Office Connection with which users can now view, interact with and refresh Cognos 8 BI reports, analyses and metrics within Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. Finally, the product offers Access to mySAP and Siebel.

Microsoft announces enhancements to BizTalk Server 2006
Microsoft Corp. released Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, Microsoft’s business process management and application integration technology, which connects employees, trading partners, processes and information.

BizTalk Server 2006 includes more than 20 application and technology adapters, including adapters for popular applications such as SAP, Siebel, Peoplesoft, Oracle Database and JD Edwards. The product also includes advanced management and deployment capabilities, real-time alerting functionality and a new business activity monitoring (BAM) portal to help companies optimize their business process management investments.

MEGA releases Service Pack 2 for MEGA 2005
MEGA International announced the availability of Service Pack 2 (SP2) of its enterprise modeling platform MEGA 2005.

A major enhancement with SP2 is the addition of new import/export tools, offering an enterprise the possibility to integrate models that were created with other tools. These tools include the ERwin Importer, which allows the import of conceptual data models that were created using the AllFusion Erwin Data Modeler. Also included is the PowerDesigner Importer, which allows import of conceptual data models that were created with Sybase PowerDesigner. The third tool is the Visio Importer, which allows the import of diagrams created with Microsoft Office Visio, including business process diagrams, organization charts, application architecture diagrams and data modeling diagrams. Finally, the BPEL exporter, which allows the export of any MEGA business process in BPEL format (Business Process Execution Language), thus providing a standardized interface with other business process automation environments.

MEGA 2005 SP2 also includes a new client/server deployment mode, designed to accommodate architectures with limited dedicated bandwidth. The new deployment mode is a simple and easy alternative when Metaframe XP or Terminal Server cannot be used in the organization.

Symantec releases Symantec Client Security 3.1 and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1
Symantec Corp. announced the launch of Symantec Client Security 3.1 and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1, which offer real-time spyware prevention and new enterprise-class reporting resources for protection against cybercrime.

The new products offers continuous updated detection and removal capabilities via a downloadable anti-spyware engine, helping to ensure that desktop clients have the new software they need without requiring a full update. Symantec AntiVirus blocks installation of software that creates a security risk, stopping adware, spyware and other malware. This prevents attacks from gaining any access onto a computer.

Symantec Client Security 3.1 and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1 are available from Symantec’s resellers, distributors and systems integrators.
