Xandros Server caters to SMBs
Xandros announced the release of Xandros Server catering to the SMB market.

Xandros recently launched a Linux server to provide a platform for enterprise administrators and SMBs with little or no Linux experience. The Xandros Server compliments the company’s desktop, software deployment and management software. Xandros Server includes the DB2 Express-C version of the DB2 Universal Database Express Edition.

The standard edition has a one time price of US$449.99 per licence. Each licensed copy may be installed on a single machine (up to four processors) and includes 90 days of installation technical support through e-mail. Volume discounts are also available.

Transition Networks introduces device server product line
Transition Networks Inc. released a device server product line featuring serial-to-Ethernet converters, which enable users to integrate existing serial-based devices into their Ethernet networks located in either the office environment or on the factory floor.

The new device servers provide either a Fast Ethernet fibre interface or a 10/100Mbps Ethernet copper interface and are offered in four model families: industrial grade RS232 to 100Base-FX, industrial grade RS422/485 to 100Base-FX, standard RS232/422/485 to 10/100Base-TX and standard RS232/422/485 to 100Base-FX. All models offer standard serial and fibre interfaces and comply with EIA/TIA-232, EIA/TIA-574 and IEEE802.3 specifications. All models supporting RS-422/485 are capable of two-wire half-duplex or four-wire full-duplex asynchronous data transmission. The device servers also provide a distributed and scalable solution with 256 virtual COM ports control from one device and are remotely manageable via Telnet, Web browser or command line interface (CLI).

All standard models are powered by an external power supply and have a 0°C to 50°C operating temperature and feature a metal enclosure and industrial-grade components to withstand extreme vibration and shock.

Zarlink Semiconductor releases devices targeting triple play and enterprise services
Zarlink Semiconductor introduced added offerings to its ClassSwitch Ethernet platform with two new devices enabling faster deployment of network access equipment that must aggregate, inspect and modify real-time traffic in triple play and carrier-grade Ethernet VLAN applications.

The new ZL33032 and ZL33050 chips are Ethernet switches integrating embedded memory with protection switching and enhanced per-flow QoS features. The devices offer switching and aggregation performance required for IP-DSLAMs (IP-digital subscriber line access multiplexer), MTU/MDU (multi-tenant/multi-dwelling unit) switch systems, PON units and micro-MSPPs (multi-service provisioning platforms) carrying Ethernet services over SONET/SDH networks.

The ZL33032 embedded memory switch offers 24 FE (Fast Ethernet) and four GE (Gigabit Ethernet) ports. The ZL33050 delivers the same features and port configurations, with the option to add external memory to support applications requiring additional traffic burstiness, more complex congestion control and advanced traffic shaping.

The ZL33032 and ZL33050 devices are available now, priced at US$74.00 and US$80.91, respectively, in 10,000 volumes.
