OKI printing solutions releases C6100 series workgroup printer
OKI Data Americas Inc. introduces the C6100 series of digital colour printers.

The series features microfine toner and multilevel LED heads from OKI Printing Solutions. OKI claims that the C6100 series runs around 9.6 cents for colour and 1.5 cents for black and-white printouts. The C6100 Series includes several security features to protect confidential data and a Job Accounting utility to restrict colour printing to specific users and track costs on a per job basis.

The printers offer up to 26 ppm in colour and 32 ppm in black-and-white. The printers can also print up to 8.5” x 47.25” banners, allowing users to print professional-quality colour marketing and presentation materials in-house. Also included is Postscript 3 emulation and PCL6, allowing for Mac compatibility. Lastly, the print job data encryption allows for secure printing, which ensures confidential documents are only viewed by authorized users by encrypting data transferred over the network and enforcing the input of a 4-10 digit PIN code at the printer prior to document printing (standard on C6100hdn only and optional on C6100n/dn/dtn).

The C6100 series’ estimated street price starts at $999. It is available now through OKI Printing Solutions authorized solution providers.

Storage

Nexsan Technologies offers iSCSI RAID storage products
Nexsan Technologies announced the availability of iSCSI versions of several members of its line of RAID storage products enabling direct-disk connections over the network.

The drives can be integrated into existing Ethernet or Fibre Channel backup environments. The iSCSI functionality is now built into the company’s SATABoy and SATABeast RAID-6 SATA-based products. Nexsan’s implementation of RAID-6 has been optimized for SATA disk drives, providing protection against the failure of any two drives in a RAID set. Nexsan’s RAID-6 enabled SATA storage solutions service allows for a broad range of applications, including fixed content, reference data and disk-to-disk backup and replication for business continuity and disaster recovery.

SATABeast offers 21 terabytes of storage capacity in 4U of rack space that can scale to 210 cost-correct terabytes of capacity in a single rack. The SATABeast’s design extends individual drive life, while its AutoMAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) function allows SATABeast to place its disk drives into an idle state to conserve energy.

SATABoy offers dual 2Gb Fibre Channel connectors on each controller to enable its implementation into a wide range of environments.

Security

IBM offers tool to fight IT security breaches
IBM announced software to help customers and software developers build security into their business applications, the security tools are available to users at no charge.

With this software, developers and application providers can engineer security into the software lifecycle process at the beginning of their design to help make businesses and consumers less vulnerable to security attacks, as opposed to plugging security holes with patches after the damage is done.

The technologies allow users to develop secure applications as they are added into the IT infrastructure and encrypt business information automatically. The technologies are hosted on alphaWorks, IBM’s online outlet for emerging technologies and include automatic data encryption and increased security for Java applications
