Storage

DataCore announces SANmaestro Monitor
DataCore Software announced an addition to its SANmaestro suite with a software environment to manage, analyze and monitor performance and resource usage across SANs and Windows systems. The entry-level version of SANmaestro Monitor makes enterprise-level resource analysis, monitoring and reporting functionality possible to SMB customers.

SANmaestro is designed for businesses that require an audit trail of historical I/O behavior and capacity consumption, want to generate input to billing and charge-back applications based on system resources or storage utilization and need to profile performance trends and identify hotspots. The product can also determine the physical metrics behind virtual storage resources, such as displaying the actual physical space consumed over time by specific applications that rely on SANmelody’s ‘Virtual Capacity’ auto provisioning service.

SANmaestro is available now with pricing for SANmaestro Monitor for SANmelody-based systems and for networks of Windows-based platforms starting at US$4,998.

Infrastructure

IBM releases blade computing offerings for SMBs
IBM released an addition to its BladeCenter series with the IBM Server Connectivity Module that allows for easier management capabilities, designed for the SMB segment.

The availability of Windows management technology helps users to combine the benefits of BladeCenter and IBM’s System i computing platform, using System i’s virtual storage, networking and tape resources to simplify Windows server management. The option of Windows management enables BladeCenter to integrate with System i through an industry standard iSCSI connection. The IBM Implementation Services Servicepac for BladeCenter is designed to simplify the deployment of a BladeCenter infrastructure for SMBs.

The Server Connectivity Module for IBM BladeCenter is available from IBM now, with a starting price of US$999.

Networking

Sangoma Technologies releases A108 cards
Sangoma Technologies Corp. introduced the A108 Series of PCI cards that support high-density voice and data applications. The card features eight T1/E1 ports.

As with other Sangoma PCI cards, the A108 is available in an A108d version especially built for the soft telephony industry. The A108d supports voice enhancement capabilities including G.168-2002 echo cancellation with 1024 tap/128ms tail per channel on all channel densities, DMF encoding/decoding and tone recognition, voice quality enhancement and adaptive noise reduction.

Other features to the A108d include support for 1024 taps (128ms) of echo tail handling on every channel (DS0), dynamic and selective activation of echo cancellation and the same PCI interface, architecture and digital path as all of Sangoma’s other AFT-based analogue and T1/E1 cards.

Fluke introduces 10 Gigabit Ethernet copper certification solution
Fluke Networks Canada announced the release of a 10 Gigabit Ethernet cable testing solution for copper, consisting of Fluke Networks’ DTX-1800 CableAnalyzer in addition to the just released DTX 10 Gig Kit.

The product makes it possible to measure and evaluate the Alien Crosstalk (AxTalk) test parameters in addition to the cabling certification tests for each individual link, up to 500 MHz. Using the 10 Gig Kit, the DTX CableAnalyzer measures the crosstalk between all wire pair combinations of two links in approximately 30 seconds. These pair-to-pair test results are transmitted from the DTX main unit to the PC that is running the DTX AxTalk Analyzer software.

The DTX 10 Gig Kit consists of a set of communications modules which snap into the DTX-1800 main and remote units. Also included is a Windows-based software program to calculate AxTalk power sum test parameters that analyze the combined effect of all disturber links on the victim link. The kit enables tests in a channel as well as permanent link configuration.

The DTX 10Gig Kit will be available for delivery in July 2006, from distributors and other Fluke Networks sales outlets. The DTX CableAnalyzer is available now.
