Cisco introduces integrated business services solution for cable operators
Cisco Systems unveiled a single-box solution for cable operators or multiple service operators (MSOs) selling services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises with branch operations.

The Cisco Integrated Business Service solution consists of a Cisco 815 Cable Integrated Services Router (ISR) and Cisco High-Speed WAN Interface Cards (HWIC-CABLE-D-2 and HWIC-CABLE-E/J-2). With the integrated solution, MSOs will no longer need to provide two customer premise devices, a cable modem and a router, in order to deploy business services. Cable operators can now deploy a single device that includes the Cisco IOS feature set.

The Cisco 815 Cable ISR is a fixed-configuration router with a single F connector for DOCSIS connectivity, four 10/100 Ethernet ports and security and routing capabilities. The security features of the Cisco 815 ISR include capabilities such as hardware-based virtual private network (VPN) acceleration, firewall and intrusion prevention.

The Cisco Integrated Business Services solution for cable operators will be made available in August 2006 and will vary in pricing based on configurations.

Cisco releases enhancements across its services module portfolio
Cisco Systems also announced enhanced software features across several services modules available for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches.

Cisco currently offers over 20 different services modules for the Catalyst 6500 in five categories: security, application networking, network monitoring, wireless/mobility, and IP communications. By integrating these modules in their existing Catalyst 6500 switches, every port becomes services capable. Customers can defend their network infrastructure with unified threat protection by integrating firewall, intrusion protection, denial of service attack protection and IPSEC or SSL VPN services.
