Check Point introduces Safe@Office threat management appliances
Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. announced the release of its Check Point Safe@Office 500/500W ADSL appliances, providing network security and a choice of wired or wireless Internet connectivity in an all-in-one solution for SMBs.

With the product, businesses using ADSL for Internet access can secure their entire network with an enterprise-class unified-threat management (UTM) appliance which includes a stateful-inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, wireless security, gateway anti-virus and IPSec VPN. The product offers a full-fledged network router, featuring an integrated ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ high-speed broadband modem port, 4-port LAN switch, a dedicated DMZ port that can function as a secondary Internet connection (WAN2) and an optional wireless access point. Static and dynamic routing options are available for interoperability.

Spectra Logic ships encryption-enabled libraries
Spectra Logic has released the Spectra T950 and T120 tape libraries with hardware-based AES-256 encryption. Spectra libraries write to both LTO and disk, combining backup and encryption into one step. Spectra libraries with BlueScale˙ Encryption let users add a security strategy without changing backup policies, or adding hardware or software.

Two editions of Spectra Logic BlueScale Encryption are available, Standard and Professional. Spectra encryption offers multiple layers of security, including quorum (m-of-n shares), role-based authorization and multiple passwords to access key export and import. Spectra libraries can use multiple keys on the library at one time, giving users a more flexible security strategy. Professional Edition offers compression, which requires half the media to conduct backup plus encryption.

The Standard Edition BlueScale Encryption is available at US$2,500 and the Professional Edition with compression begins at US$12,000.

IBM releases GoldenSource Enterprise Data Management platform
IBM has licensed the GoldenSource Enterprise Data Management Suite as part of IBM’s brokerage processing solutions for Canadian securities clients.

IBM SIS offers a range of middle and back office processing services for Canadian securities clients. The new platform will deliver solutions via a Service Oriented Architecture and GoldenSource EDM suite.

IBM has licensed the GoldenSource EDM Suite as part of its new solution, which will assist clients in addressing operational efficiencies and the need to incorporate new products and services in response to market requirements.

SAP and IBM announce integrated database and business management offering for mid-size enterprises
SAP AG and IBM announced an agreement to offer mid-size enterprises better integration between mySAP All-in-One solutions and the upcoming version of DB2, code-named “Viper.” The new offering also includes a one-year special maintenance offering.

Scheduled for release in mid-2006, DB2 Viper for mySAP All-in-One solutions is designed to help mid-size enterprises ease configuration, enhance performance and increase solution availability. SAP and IBM are offering one year free maintenance of DB2 for new customers of mySAP All-in-One solutions who wish to run their SAP applications on the latest version of DB2. Users utilizing the new offering will benefit from embedded capabilities such as self-tuned memory, new compression technology, built-in high availability and advanced autonomic capabilities.
