Winternals updates release of Recovery Manager
Winternals Software announced the release of Recovery Manager 3.0, an an enterprise backup and recovery solution for Windows servers, workstations and mobile PCs.

Recovery Manager 3.0 is an enterprise recovery solution that provides protection on a number of levels, including the operating system, application, user data and user settings. The product is designed to reduce recovery time and prevent data loss when Windows systems fail due to factors such as faulty Windows patches, software corruption, user error, power disruptions and malware attacks. Recovery operations are centrally managed for all sites throughout the enterprise, allowing multiple remote systems to be restored simultaneously.

Other features included in Recovery Manager 3.0 extend the product’s capabilities to include bare metal recovery and other system restore advances. The bare metal recovery capabilities mean that the product can now be utilized to rebuild damaged or corrupted hard drives, without having to reinstall the operating system. Another upgrade in the version is the ability to take Recovery Points of open files, such as database files, without disabling them first. Version 3.0 supports seamless integration of Windows x64-compatible systems, without additional installation or deployment steps.

Recovery Manager 3.0 is licensed by server and workstation and available now directly from Winternals and through authorized resellers.

Cognos releases two solutions for financial sector
Cognos released two products for financial organizations designed to facilitate process improvements in financial consolidation and corporate reporting.

The products, Management and Financial Reporting (MFR) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Performance Blueprints are based on the reporting and analysis capabilities of Cognos 8 Business Intelligence and the enterprise financial consolidation and corporate reporting capabilities of Cognos 8 Controller.

The MFR Performance Blueprint offers a pre-built library of performance reports to help simplify and accelerate deployment. It is designed to help increase efficiencies in the financial consolidation process and to provide timely distribution of performance reports to business managers, who are often underserved with business performance information.

The MFR and IFRS Performance Blueprints help customers address the challenge of facilitating continuous performance improvement practices and efficiently meeting the demands of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and International Financial Reporting Standards.

VoluBill releases Track em tracking solution for 3G services
VoluBill launched Track em, a real-time network monitoring solution that provides operators with details on customer activity on their network.

The information collected by VoluBill’s solution can assist operators detect and act upon network usage that potentially undermines their overall profitability. This is achieved by giving operators the power to restrict, block or charge users for specific traffic at a premium rate or on a subscription basis as well as individually market services in ways that specifically reflect a customer’s unique usage pattern.

VoluBill is also offering a packaged service around Track em. The system is installed for a fixed period of time and the operator is provided with a snapshot and analysis of current network usage.

Apple releases Intel-based replacement for the G4 iBook
Apple unveiled the newly designed MacBook, featuring an Intel Core Duo processor and a 13-inch widescreen display.

All of Apple’s portables lineup now offer Intel Core Duo processors, a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing, Front Row media experience with Apple Remote and other features including DVI with dual display support, optical digital audio input and output, Gigabit Ethernet, Sudden Motion Sensor and Scrolling TrackPad.

The MacBook lineup features three models, a 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz MacBook in a white enclosure and a 2.0 GHz MacBook in a black enclosure. The notebooks are about one-inch thick, about 20 per cent thinner than the iBook. The screen is capable of resolutions of up to 1280 x 800 and offers 30 per cent more viewing area than the iBook and the 12-inch PowerBook.

All MacBooks include built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet, built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11g WiFi for up to 54 Mbps wireless networking, built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), two USB 2.0 ports, combination analogue and optical digital audio input and output ports and a mini-DVI video output to connect up to an Apple Cinema HD Display.

The new MacBook is available through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. The 1.83 GHz white model has a suggested retail price of $1,249, the 2.0 GHz white MacBook has a suggested retail price of $1,449 and the 2.0 GHz black model has a suggested retail price of $1,649.

Toshiba launches multimedia notebook computer with built-in HD DVD drive
Toshiba Canada Ltd. released the Qosmio G30, featuring an HD DVD Super Multi double layer drive and a 1-bit digital amplifier.

The Qosmio G30 also features a built in TV tuner with HDMI connector, providing users the ability to connect directly to a high definition television signal and watch live HD television on the 17-inch wide screen display. Also deatured is a Dolby Home Theater featuring Dolby Virtual Speaker technology, simulating a 5.1 surround-sound experience from two speakers.

The control panel and the QosmioPlayer lets users bypass the Windows operating system at the touch of a button allowing for quick access to TV, video and audio playback. With dual hard disk drive and multiple disc support, users can choose more storage capacity or HDD mirroring for increased data security.

The base model of the notebook comes with an Intel Core Duo processor T2500 at 2.0 GHz, 200GB hard disk drive, 1 GB of DDR2 memory and integrated wireless LAN and Bluetooth support. The Qosmio G30 will has an MSRP of $3,299.
