Centennial Software updates Centennial DeviceWall 4.5
Centennial Software announced the latest release of the company’s endpoint security software, DeviceWall 4.5. The software is designed to help organizations manage the business risks associated with portable storage devices on the network.

New in DeviceWall 4.5 is file access auditing, which automatically logs all data being moved between portable devices and the corporate network. File access auditing ensures that system administrators have a historical record of these file movements for future incident investigations.

The software also introduces a temporary access feature that simplifies granting time-limited access to specified devices. Additional enhancements in this release include user interface and usability improvements, simplified administration and support for Apache Web server.

DeviceWall 4.5 is available immediately as a free upgrade to those customers with current support and maintenance contracts.

Symantec updates Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security
Symantec Corp. announced the launch of Norton AntiVirus 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2007. Norton AntiVirus 2007 protects against viruses, spyware and related risks. Norton Internet Security 2007 is a security suite that includes the anti-virus and anti-spyware protection of Norton AntiVirus and safeguards against the latest online dangers by providing phishing protection, an enhanced firewall and defense against software vulnerabilities.

Part of the changing threat landscape is the fact that virus writers are rapidly creating variations of existing malicious code rather than developing entirely new threats. Norton AntiVirus 2007 addresses this growing trend by delivering technology that blocks attacks from entire worm and virus families without requiring individual signatures for each new threat. Utilizing security technology that detects these virus and worm families, Norton AntiVirus 2007 provides protection for users even before a new worm or virus is created and released. Norton AntiVirus’ defences are kept current with protection updates delivered daily.

In addition, Norton AntiVirus can now find new types of viruses that use rootkits to hide themselves from security software. This technology detects camouflaged threats at all system levels, including the application, user mode and kernel level.

The Intrusion Prevention feature in Norton Internet Security 2007 offers critical protection against recently discovered vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system and other popular applications. These security holes can be shielded by Norton Internet Security much faster than it typically takes a vendor to release a patch to fix the problem.

These products are designed for Windows XP Home/Pro users and are eligible for a free Windows Vista compatibility update when it becomes available.

Norton AntiVirus 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2007 are scheduled to be available for purchase through the Symantec online store as well as various retail locations and online retailers in September 2006. The suggested retail price of Norton AntiVirus 2007 is US$39.99 (includes one-year service subscription to use the product and receive Symantec’s protection updates). The suggested retail price for Norton Internet Security 2007 is US$69.99 (includes one-year service subscription to use the product and receive Symantec’s protection updates). Small Office Packs for five- and 10-users are scheduled to be available for both products. Norton Internet Security 2007 can be installed on up to three PCs. Current subscribers of Symantec products who are eligible for Norton AntiVirus 2007 or Norton Internet Security 2007 upgrades will be notified via in-product notification. These customers can also renew their subscriptions for US$39.99 and US$49.99 respectively.
