Here’s the startup news making headlines today on other Web sites and blogs. Three Ottawa startups share almost $2 million in funding, a Mother’s Day hack event for women, and Montreal gets set to accelerate its startup scene.
Ottawa startups share $1.9M
Three Ottawa startups aregetting a combined total of $1.9 million inseed funding from the federal government. Toushay Inc.will receive$750,000, Protecode Inc. will get $680,000 and Benbria Corp. willreceive $517,250. The funding comes from the Federal EconomicDevelopment Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Under theprogram, the three startups are also eligible for a further $2 millionin private financing from venture capital firms and angel investors insouthern Ontario. The investment is expected to create up to 40 ITsector jobs in the local area over the next two years.
