Navigating job search Web site can often be a laborious task.
Waterloo, Ont.-based AltCareer.com wants to put an end to that and make it easier and faster for people to find jobs and companies to hire employees.
Find the perks and find the job
Professionals can now browse jobs and associated perks right from the AltCareer homepage without the need to sign up for an account. AltCareer has also revamped its job listing search tool to make searching for jobs based on their favourite perks faster and simpler.
Current employers listing on the site include Achievers, Desire2Learn, Enflick, Firmex, Top Hat Monocle and Xtreme Labs.
“By showcasing listings and perks more prominently, we can maximize our users’ exposure to exciting new job opportunities with great employers,” says Carlos Perez, AltCareer co-founder.
Remapping the hood
Livehoods, is a new mapping software from Mobile Commerce Lab,CMU that is redrawing traditional neighbourhood boundaries and Montreal is one of its latest targets for remapping.
The software groups locations in a city into clusters called Livehoods which are based on the mainly on whether the same people have checked into the same place on their Foursquare account, according to report by the CBC’s Spark radio program.
“If many of the same people who check into a café also check into the grocery store around the corner, we’ll identify a strong relationship between the café and the grocery,” Justin Cranshaw told Spark. Cranshaw is one of the creators of Livehood.
“On the other hand, if the set of people that check into the cafe don’t check into the movie theatre across the street, then we identify a weaker relationship,” Cranshaw said.
