Frustration over losing time, money and productivity due to scheduling conflicts and lack of instant access to information spurred on Kory Arsenault and Cale White to contribute in the efforts of developing a paperless workplace by building a Web-based employee scheduling software.

Web-based scheduling tool

Calgary-based eSchedule Inc. offers business users an online tool that is a fast, easy and safe way of scheduling employee tasks, according to the duo. eSchedule challenges the error-prone manual paper-based or spreadsheet scheduling by providing a dedicated Web-based management tool with capabilities that include shift trading and vacation administration.

Users also get quick updates on any information changes via automatic notifications. Try out eSchedule with this 45-day free trail.

Clean fuel tech

SABRTech Inc., a Nova Scotia-based startup that developed a new method for growing and using algae to supply biofuel for the aviation industry, recently harvested some much needed green.

SABRTech was awarded $100,000 in cash, a $200,000 negotiable seed investment, mentoring and in-kind business building services the Nova Scotia CleanTech Open.

“Algae have huge potential as a source of biofuel,” said Mather Carscallen, CEO of SABRTech Inc. “Winning this competition is invaluable. It allows me to focus on prototype development so I can eventually market my technology around the world.”

The province of Nova Scotia, through early-stage venture capital organization Innovacorp, launched CleanTech Open last year to find and fund high-potential, early stage clean technology companies. Innovacorp received 65 submissions from the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and China and across Canada.

Location – based marketing

Bee Media, which started out as a personal shopping site and location-based deals company, intends use Adcentricity to complete a “pivot” move, online publication Techvibes reported.

Bee Media is “in the process of expanding into an exciting, leading-edge, location-based digital media company that delivers targeted advertising and offers a fully integrated platform and ad network,” the company said in a press release.

Bee plans to “change the way you to plan, buy, sell, and measure location-based digital media to drive brand impressions and conversions,” according to their Web site.
