Norton Small Business offers multi-device security for small teams

Symantec Corp. is launching a new product targeted at small businesses with 20 employees or less, offering to secure PCs, tablets, and smartphones alike with its cloud-based behaviour analysis engine, it announced today.

The new service will cover small teams that use multiple devices (yes, Macs too) to do business and protect against viruses with a 100 per cent money-back guarantee if an infection can’t be removed. Instead of being installed on a device, the service is managed from a web dashboard.

 

The subscription service is managed from the dashboard, where an administrator can add new devices, remove them if an employee has left the company (of their device left the company), and see information about their subscription. New employee onboarding is done by sending an email invitation. It’s easy to filter devices by type and see if they have protection deployed or not.

Users can deploy security products onto devices too, and turn on automatic renewal and subscriptions.

The security service is powered by the same engine featured on Symantec Endpoint Protection 12. The Symantec Insight cloud examines a file’s age, location, popularity, and telemetry data to detect rapidly changing encryption or mutating codes – big warning signs there’s malware on board. SONAR, or Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response detects new threats based on behaviours. Made to detect zero-day threats, it works to stop previously unknown malware.

Norton Small Business is available today in Canada starting at $99 annually for up to five devices. Other price points include $199 annually to protect 10 devices, $399 annually to protect 20 devices, and $20 per additional device. It’s available from Norton’s online store and from Staples, Best Buy, and Future Shop.
