Nikon releases digital SLR camera
Nikon Canada released the D80 Digital SLR, which features a 10.2 effective megapixel DX Format CCD image sensor.

One of the advances in the D80 is Nikon’s new high-resolution image processing engine. The camera offers colour independent analogue pre-conditioning and high-precision 12-bit digital image processing algorithms, which combine to produce natural-looking images. A dedicated high-performance processing chip accelerates performance and also achieves lower power consumption, providing more pictures per battery charge than previous models.

Advanced Auto White Balance (AWB) produces natural coloration by measuring the entire frame of each scene and matching white balance to the light source. For users seeking greater control, the flexible options include a choice of six specific manual settings, (Incandescent, Fluorescent, Direct Sunlight, Flash, Cloudy, and Shade), as well as a preset option for using a grey or white object as a reference.

The camera body retails for $1,249.00 and is available mid-November from Nikon Canada authorized dealers.

Altstone Software releases Web site geographical tracker
Altstone Software announced the release of a program for tracking Web site visitors on the Internet. Geo Log Analyzer allows users to distinguish geographical locations of Web site visitors. The software analyzes Web site logs and then determines what continent, country and city visitors are coming from.

The program displays information concerning the number of unique IPs, visits and hits for countries, states, separate cities, precise time of the first and the last visit. The most active cities on the map are marked with stars, less active are marked with various circles. The map is zoomable and movable, to a scale specified by the user. All information is displayed in a compact table form. These tables can be converted to HTML, XML, CSV and Excel formats.

Another important feature in the program is its ability to recognize spiders. The database of Geo Log Analyzer is able to recognize 1100+ spiders and spam bots. Users will receive comprehensive information about each spider visit: what kind of Web robot, when and what it recorded on your Web site.

Geo Log Analyzer runs under Windows 2000/XP/2003 and costs US$49.95.
