Network Associates Inc. is scanning for resellers to handle the company’s latest product lines, which expand its network intrusion detection portfolio.

Associates in Canada, said this week.
Those products come from NA’s new acquisitions, IntruVert Networks of San Jose, Calif., a manufacturer of IntruShield network detection appliances, and Entercept Security Technologies, which makes host-based intrusion detection applications. Network Associates spent a total of US$220 million for the two companies two months ago.
Now, Sebbag said, the company is lining up resellers from its stable of partners to market and install the new lines.
There are only a handful of IntruVert resellers in this country, he said, “”but we’re looking to grow that big time.””
However, he said it will be picky about which of the 400 Network Associate resellers in this country will be allowed to carry them.
“”This is more complex than selling anti-virus,”” he said.
“”We’re going to look for some well-groomed organizations with expertise in this kind of environment.””
Sebbag made the remarks during an interview on the upcoming release of IntruShield 1200, a $13,523 network detection appliance from IntruVert for mid-size and branch office networks.
It’s the first product to be released under the McAfee brand following the IntruVert purchase.
The IntruShield 1200, to be released Aug. 15, is almost identical to the company’s top-line model 4000 and 2600. Using behaviour, signature and denial of service analysis, the hardware detects and blocks unusual activity.
The 1200 has two 10/100 detection ports which can be deployed in span, full duplex tap, port clustering or inline mode.
The difference between the models is their through-put – the 1200 scans 100 megabits per second compared to the 4000’s 2 gigabits per second.
The 4000 is designed for the core of an enterprise network, while the 2600 is for the network perimeter.
The $9,833 IntruShield Manager, for installations with six or fewer units, is a centralized Web-based management application that provides configuration, security policy control and data analysis.
Installations needing more than six units use the $36,892 IntruShield Global Manager.</
