More room to host

Netfirms, a Web hosting company for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), has made upgrades to its business Web site hosting products, increasing their disk space and bandwidth by as much as 1,250 per cent, and improving their ability to host unlimited Web sites on business accounts.

In addition, Netfirms launched MultiWebsite, which allows customers to host unlimited domains and sites, and set up e-mail accounts for each domain name. The changes come with no change in prices.

A VTL appliance
The REO 1500 from Overland Storage Inc. ‘s REO series of disk-based backup, recovery and virtual tape library (VTL) appliances is well suited for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) or distributed enterprises. The REO 1500 extends the capabilities of its predecessor REO 1000 to deliver five-times faster backups and provide restores of up to 2TBs of vital data. The entry-level model also includes version 4.0 of Overland’s REO Protection OS software for enhanced data protection intelligence and a more comprehensive set of options involving any combination of up to six VTLs, 32 virtual tape drives and 512 virtual cartridges.

Platform extender
ADTRAN Inc., a supplier of multiservice access gateways, is offering an all-in-one platform designed to simplify hosted VoIP, Internet access, and business connectivity services for small and medium businesses (SMBs) and distributed enterprises. The NetVanta 1355 delivers converged IP access by combining session initiation protocol (SIP, an application-layer control – or signaling – protocol for creating, modifying, and terminating sessions with one or more participants) gateway functionality with advanced routing, power over Ethernet (PoE) switching, security, Layer 3 quality of service (QoS) and survivability features.

The latest storage systems from Dell span both the Dell/EMC and Dell POWERVAULT product lines to provide a cost-effective storage solution for primary storage and backup. New from Dell/EMC is the CX3-10, an entry-level storage area network (SAN) array providing data protection and availability. Supporting iSCSI and Fibre Channel hosts, the array extends the reach of the enterprise-class UltraScale architecture to small and medium businesses. iSCSI-based SANs provide significant cost advantages over traditional Fibre Channel SANs, with lower fabric, implementation and maintenance costs, according to Dell.
