Mobilicity targets Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe for 2013

Upstart Toronto-based mobile carrier Mobilicity said Wednesday that 2013 will see it expand its “unlimited 4G network” to Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe region and areas around Toronto, including Oshawa and Hamilton.

The launches will come later in the year, according to the company, with Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa slated to launch by September. Milton, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton /Stoney Creek will follow by December.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is among the phones Mobilicity is bringing to the Golden Horseshoe.

“To the hardworking people living in Oshawa, Hamilton and everywhere in between, we want to let you know that your days of being overcharged for wireless are numbered,” said Mobilicity president Stewart Lyons, in a statement. “Mobilicity is on its way. Our engineering team has been working on network builds in your areas and we’re looking for new dealers and employees to help us deliver the value you deserve through Mobilicity’s no-contract, affordable unlimited data, talk and text service.”

Mobilicity also said Wednesday that it has upgraded its HSPA+-enabled network to 4G as of last month, enabling data speeds of up to 21Mbps on compatible devices.
