McAfee unveils new security suites for BYOD era

Security solutions and services provider McAfee Inc. released two new software suites on Wednesday, geared towards protecting businesses’ data on their mobile devices and applications.

Given that more and more businesses are adopting a bring your own device (BYOD) approach as employees’ personal mobile devices are flooding the workplace, it’d be useful to be able to manage those devices without having to use a separate system.

Enter McAfee’s Complete Endpoint Protection suites, where it has integrated several of its products to manage threats not only to PCs, but also to employee-owned devices like smartphones, tablets and laptops connecting to the corporate network. The products are targeted towards stealthy malware, phishing and malicious Web pages.

The suites come in two versions – one for small to mid-sized business and one for enterprise. They’re touted as ways of linking security from chip to operating system to applications, helping IT departments manage their risk.

They also combine McAfee Deep Defender, a rootkit protection developed by Intel Corp. and McAfee, dynamic whitelisting, risk intelligence and real-time security management. The suites include mobile device management and support for Macs and Linux.

McAfee also announced it has integrated its Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) software with the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, unifying the platform with a single infrastructure and console. That makes it simpler to manage mobile devices. The EMM software is also bundled into the new McAfee Complete Endpoint Protection suites.

Integrating all these products into suites makes it easier and quicker for IT departments to install the security software, as it’s all managed within one console.

Pricing for the McAfee suites starts at $30 per endpoint, and they are now available worldwide.
