McAfee launches Windows Mobile antivirus solution

Security

McAfee offers virus scanner for Windows Mobile
McAfee Inc. announced the release of McAfee VirusScan Mobile and McAfee VirusScan Mobile Enterprise Edition, now available for the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform.

The software helps protect users of Windows Mobile 5.0 against the latest malware and attacks, including recent SMiShing attacks (phishing scams via SMS). Mobile devices that access the Internet and receive or send text messages may be vulnerable to malware. Some devices, especially smart phones, can obtain viruses from downloading and installing an application. Mobile viruses can spread to contacts that users have stored on their mobile phones.

McAfee VirusScan Mobile and McAfee VirusScan Mobile Enterprise Edition protect Windows Mobile 5.0 user devices from attacks via SMS, MMS, Bluetooth and other entry points. The software protects against the threats that originate from e-mail, instant messaging, internet downloads and Web surfing, detecting and cleaning infected files before they can attack the device.

When viruses, worms, Trojans or other threats are found, inline cleaning cleans the devices. Updates run in the background, ensuring that users are always protected from emerging and evolving security threats. MMS, SMS, and e-mail attachment scanning scans attachments as they are received or as they are sent. Future-proof protection is provided by scanning all file system access, regardless of entry method.

McAfee VirusScan Mobile is available for download as a free 30-day trial from the company’s site.

Sonasoft updates SonaSafe Suite backup, recovery and disaster recovery solution
Sonasoft Corp. announced the availability of an updated version of its SonaSafe Suite for Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Windows Servers. This release contains additional features including dynamic mailbox backups, customized ports, enhanced replication and recovery capability.

The solution protects data from hardware and software failures and human errors. The SonaSafe application maintains the redundant standby server by continually updating the data with that retrieved from the primary system. The standby system can take over in the event of primary system failure. The standby system can be on-site, or located at a remote site for protection against natural or man-made disasters.

Backup of mailboxes over 2GB in PST format on the Exchange Server level is impossible because of the limitation inherited in the Mail Application Programming Interface (MAPI), which generates PST files. Dynamic mailbox backup incorporates automatic splitting of mailboxes with sizes over 2GB. Also, the complete backup of mailbox has to be taken only once and then only the incremental backups need to be taken.

In this version, users are able to open specific ports across their WAN infrastructure, which helps limit their exposure to attacks on the commonly used NETBIOS ports.

The product also provides intelligent file level backup and recovery capabilities.

Data Management

Siperian announces data management solution
Siperian released a set of architectural styles that allow organizations to deploy their MDM solution in a manner that best fits their unique business requirements. The three styles, Master Identity, Customer-centric Master Data Management and Customer-centric Operational Views, enable companies to reduce both the time and cost typically associated with implementing a master data management solution.

Siperian’s architectural modes enable companies to start small within a business unit leveraging the Master Identity solution in order to deliver rapid return on investment and then extend the solution over time across the enterprise to become the master data management platform.

The platform can evolve further to the Customer-centric Operational Views style which supports unified customer views containing complete operational context-all without locking the company into a single vendor’s proprietary architecture. In addition, Siperian’s configurable, metadata-driven platform allows organizations to rapidly adapt Siperian’s Siperian Hub to coexist with multiple legacy hubs and external data sources and then to evolve the solution over time with additional capabilities or to new geographies and business units as needed.
