Lenovo, Telus deal extends Wireless High Speed service

Wireless
Lenovo and Telus announced the select versions of Lenovo ThinkPad notebook computers with embedded access to Telus Wireless High Speed (EVDO) service. The ThinkPad notebooks provide built-in, immediate broadband-like download speeds through Telus without needing a separate PC card or additional hardware.

Through this agreement, ThinkPad notebooks will be preconfigured for Telus’ wireless high speed service, which delivers download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second, and maximum possible speeds of more than two megabits per second.

Telus Wireless High Speed service is available in 36 areas across Canada. Where Telus wireless high speed service is not available, ThinkPad notebooks can also access the Internet through Telus 1X digital service which reaches 92 per cent of Canadians. ThinkPad notebook users also have wireless high speed Internet access while traveling in more than 230 cities in the United States. TELUS-enabled ThinkPad notebooks are available from Lenovo and from Lenovo’s nationwide Business Partner community starting this month.

NCR helps manufacturers meet retailers’ tagging requirements

NCR Corporation has announced a solution that enables manufacturers to meet retailers’ mandates for delivering merchandise with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags at the case and pallet level.

The solution consists of NCR application software, an RFID printer, a bar-code scanner and a start-up supply of RFID labels that comply with the EPCglobal Generation 2 (Gen2) standard. Also included is a year of software telephone support.

NCR RFID Retail Compliance includes installation wizards that eliminate the complexity of configuring printers, software and tags. In addition, the NCR solution can be upgraded as operational requirements grow and the number of products that require tagging increases.
