HP and Cisco to deliver indoor wireless solution to enterprise customers
HP and Cisco Systems announced a joint effort to help enterprise customers take advantage of new applications and services based on Cisco’s indoor wireless technology. The applications and services include security, guest access, voice over Wi-Fi and location-based services and allow for the creation of a number of applications, such as IT asset tracking, presence-based applications, dual-mode voice and integrated intrusion detection and prevention.

HP will provide systems integration services for the products within Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network line, including the Cisco Catalyst 3750G Integrated Wireless LAN Controller and the Cisco Unified Wireless Network Software Release 4.0. The companies’ joint work is intended to improve operational efficiencies and reduce costs associated with WLAN services.

Cisco’s Unified Wireless Network Solution can address the WLAN security, deployment, management and control issues facing enterprises. HP will build on Cisco’s wireless platform to create an enterprise network computing solution by providing design, integration and management services, and supporting this solution for customers.

Intel releases software threading tools
Intel Corp. announced three threading tools that enable software developers to efficiently create threaded applications to take advantage of multi-core processing systems. These tools, Intel Threading Building Blocks 1.0, Intel Thread Checker 3.0 and Intel Thread Profiler 3.0, enable developers to achieve correctness, scalability and ease of programming in parallel development.

Intel Threading Building Blocks 1.0 is a C++ runtime library that simplifies introducing threads to an application, making performance gains possible while shielding software developers from the low-level complexity of assigning threads to processor cores. With this tool, developers can avoid having to re-write, re-test and re-tune common parallel data structures and algorithms. Developers can utilize this product to make their programs simpler and more maintainable while also enhancing the speed and scalability of their applications.

Intel Thread Checker 3.0 is a threading analysis tool that allows developers to introduce threading in a way to minimize error potential. With its error protection engine, it provides “thread safety” by identifying threading errors in 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Intel Thread Checker is unique in its ability to help developers understand how to optimally use Windows, POSIX or OpenMP threads in their applications.

Intel Thread Profiler 3.0 for Windows provides developers with insight into how their application threads interact. Intel Thread Profiler visualizes threaded application behaviour and pinpoints parallel performance issues, such as bottlenecks. It allows developers to measure the number of cores that are effectively utilized by the application and indicates the percentage of the code that is not optimally parallelized for the hardware platform on which the application is running. Intel Thread Profiler 3.0 can also prototype and estimate the performance potential of threading parts of an application, enabling developers to thread the parts of their application that will yield the greatest performance.

Intel Threading Building Blocks 1.0, Intel Thread Checker 3.0 and Intel Thread Profiler 3.0 are available today.

Suggested pricing for the products:

  • Intel Threading Building Blocks 1.0 for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems US$299
  • Intel Thread Checker 3.0 for Windows and Linux US$999
  • Intel Thread Profiler 3.0 for Windows US$299
  • Intel Thread Checker 3.0 for Linux, which currently supports command-line usage only, has a suggested price of US$499

CiRBA releases update to data centre intelligence solution
CiRBA Inc. announced the release of version 3.1 of its Data Center Intelligence (DCI) solution. CiRBA 3.1 adds new capabilities that improve an IT organization’s ability to consolidate servers and better manage virtualized environments.

With CiRBA 3.1, enterprises can analyze the consolidation potential of their heterogeneous environments, accurately determine the opportunities for virtualization as part of a complete consolidation strategy and better manage the consolidated and virtualized environment over time.

With this release, there is enhanced support for virtualized environments, expanded system audit capabilities and patent pending statistical analysis of diversity and consolidation potential.

CiRBA 3.1 is available immediately, licensed on a monthly basis with pricing based on the number of audit targets.
