HP rolls out slate of big data services

HP Software has launched a new piece of its big data strategy, aiming to help both small and large organizations alike with using its analytics platform.

Dubbing its new product “Haven OnDemand,” the new web service will run on the HP Helion Cloud and allow users to analyze business data, machine data, unstructured data, and so on. The company has also opened up its API to other companies, allowing developers to build applications and services on top of the service.

Alongside Haven OnDemand, HP has also announced a few other features that will make use of Haven’s analytics features. For example, there’s HP Vertica OnDemand, which will allow enterprises to tap into their data through whatever consumption models they want – for example, for an enterprise organization that’s concerned about security, HP can offer a managed virtual private cloud Haven platform. Pricing for Vertica OnDemand starts at around $1,000 a month, and it will become available in the first quarter of 2015.

Then there’s HP Idol OnDemand, which is made up of a slate of web services tailored for big data analytics. These can reap insights from images, social media, text, video, and so on, and they can also use contextual search, sentiment analysis, and face detection. The product is currently available in beta for developers interested in trying it out.

Aside from these two main features, HP is also adding some side services that will help companies with their analytics projects. There’s IT Operations Management for application and system management, which is currently available, and there’s also a new version of HP ArcSight ESM. It allows IT administrators to detect threats. ArcSight ESM will be available in January 2015, though no pricing details were announced.

To round out its security products, HP has also announced Application Defender, which allows IT administrators to do a self-serve security check and to manage their own protection in the cloud. This product is currently available, though there’s been no word on pricing as of yet.

Finally, HP has also rolled out its Intelligent Retention and Content Management solution, which takes data from both HP’s software and hardware products and helps businesses manage the information flowing in from both sides. This solution includes HP’s StoreAll, HP ControlPoint, HP Records Manager, and HP Haven analytics, and it is generally available now. Pricing depends on how much information is being managed, by the terabyte.
