Home Depot stores in Canada follow U.S. strategy, hire over 100 tech professionals

Home Depot is hiring 1,000 new hires to its technology teams this year, 100 of whom will be stationed at the Store Support office in Toronto.

A spokesperson told ITbusiness.ca that the Canadian Home Depot team is making investments in business roles such as software engineering, system engineering, UX design, product management and e-commerce.

“With the changing Canadian retail environment, we know technology is playing an increasingly important role; customers want to shop whenever, wherever and however they want,” the spokesperson said.

Home Depot has approximately 2,800 employees in technology roles today.

Matt Carey, EVP and chief information officer for Home Depot, said the company is an exciting place for tech roles to grow.

“Our team is building some of the most advanced software anywhere to help customers shop whenever, wherever and however they want,” he said in an April 18 press release.

The company is investing more than $11 billion into a strategic plan first announced in December to speed up deliveries and help customers find items quicker and check out faster. The company also weighed an acquisition bid for the $9 billion logistics company XPO to beef up its shipping and delivery capabilities, Recode reported in December.  Home Depot currently uses AI, AR, big data, machine learning, voice and visual recognition capabilities, according to the company’s website.
