From well, everywhere – The first day (and couple of days by the time this episode is live) of GDPR enforcement have happened, and tech giants like Facebook and Google are seriously feeling the repercussions. Apparently, just on day 1, Facebook and Google have both been hit with lawsuits accusing the companies of coercing users into sharing personal data worth 8.8 billion dollars. As a reminder, GDPR requires clear consent and justification for any personal data collection from users, and companies have had 2 years of notice to prepare for this new European regulation. Unsurprisingly, many companies were still unprepared for enforcement, so stay tuned throughout the week for the fallout.

Canada’s House of Commons adopts motion to formally enshrine net neutrality into law; 277/338 MPs voted in support of adopting the motion from technology

From Reddit – Canada’s House of Commons is moving to forever enshine the protection of net neutrality in Canada after an unanimous vote on May 23 to adopt the motion that was introduced by Oakville, Ontario MP John Oliver. Motion M-168 calls on the Canadian federal government to strengthen and protect an open Internet nationally by including net neutrality as a guiding principle in its upcoming review of the telecommunications and broadcasting acts. What’s interesting about this news, the House of Commons has 277 members, and ALL of them voted unanimously to protect it. Sounds like our American friends could learn a thing or two.

And lastly, expect to see Justin Trudeau trending in the middle of the week. The Canadian Prime Minister, will be speaking at the CanInfra Challenge event on the 29th as part of the events closing ceremonies. The event will reportedly cover promoting a national conversation on infrastructure in Canada, ideas for infrastructure with transformational benefits for Canada, the issues that we face now, and how to build a stronger and more connected infrastructure community in Canada.
