It’s iPhone launch day across Canada and Apple fans are were lined up in droves at Apple stores to buy either the iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C. About 400 people were lined up at the Toronto Eaton Centre’s Apple store ahead of its 8 AM ET opening on Friday, for example.

Until recently buyers of Apple’s iPhone could only use their device on one of the incumbent carriers in Canada – either Bell Mobility, Rogers Wireless, or Telus Mobility, or one of their subsidiary brands. That’s because the iPhone traditionally didn’t support the cellular frequenies that newer entrants to the market operate on, such as Wind Mobility. But that all changed with the iPhone 5, which is compatible with Wind Mobile’s network. Wind Mobile says the just-launched iPhone 5s and 5c are also compatible on its network, so long as you’ve got an unlocked device directly from Apple. Devices bought through carriers are going to be locked to that network and will need to be unlocked first.

While Wind Mobile isn’t selling the iPhone, it wants Canadians to know it already has thousands of iPhone 5 devices on its network. It wants to support more so it’s offering this prize package through ITBusiness.ca:
